Achtung Foursquare!

Melissa Jun Rowley has an eye-opening post over on lalawag on the potential dangers associated with oversharing via Foursquare, Gowalla, and other such geolocation based applications. It seems that several people in L.A. have been maliciously pranked, stalked, and scammed after checking-in using Foursquare.

I agree with Melissa that I'm not yet ready to commit location-based service suicide, but these examples serve as cautionary tales for considering just how much you share and with whom. I've said it before and I'll say it again: learn to self-edit.

Update: Mashable gives tips on How To Prevent and Report Online Stalking.
